FAQ

While our club isn’t here to restore your car, our members are valuable resources to give advice and assistance in helping you get the job done.  Our best advice is, join the club and benefit from the experience of many years of automotive and Mustang specific knowledge possessed by our membership. We all have contacts, favorite shops, tips and techniques and the knowledge that may make a very costly fix by a repair shop a do-it-yourself fix that is inexpensive.

Here are some answers to the most frequently answered questions we get from Mustang lovers in our area.

Where can I take my car to be restored?

We’re often asked “Where can I take my car to be restored?” or “Where can I have work done on my car?” and the answer will always be, “It depends”. We aren’t being vague, because there isn’t one definitive answer to the question. There are many factors including the year of the car, the extent and type of repair, your expectations of the work and where you are located in the Kansas City metro area (just to name a few). Look at our sponsors for restoration resources.

I’m buying a car, can you help?

If you are looking to buy a car, the club is also a very good place to start. You can learn from other members what to look for in buying a Mustang so that you can avoid the necessity of costly repairs or restoration. It is not uncommon to get a call from a Mustang owner after they have bought a car and have taken it to a shop that has quoted $5,000 in repairs to make the car safe to drive. In one case, the car had a beautiful paint job and interior, but the undercarriage/frame was not repaired and the car could not be aligned. The owner reluctantly parted the car out to the disappointment of his 16 year old son.

I’m restoring a car, what benefits would I get from joining a club?

If you’re a do-it-yourself restorer, you will find the Mustang Club of Greater Kansas City an excellent resource as well. From every day repair and maintenance, to modern upgrades, to concours restorations, to wild modified cars, our membership is a wealth of knowledge. We have members that are Mustang Club of America Gold Card judges that can assist your concours restoration, members that are certified mechanics, members that are shade-tree mechanics and members that own businesses in the automotive area that are happy to answer your questions.
